In an engine fuel system 10, a vibration damper 16 is affixed to the fuel system drive gear 12 in order to counteract torsional vibration produced in the drive gear by the fuel system10, such as a fuel injection system or a fuel pump. The damper 16 additionally dampens the response of the entire fuel system drive train, thereby reducing engine noise due to gear rattle. The damper may be a viscous damper (30, Fig 5) comprising a housing (40) containing a free mass (42) surrounded by viscous fluid (44). Alternatively the damper may be of elastic form (Fig 6). |
