A hydraulic control system (70) for a multi-regime CVT includes regime-change clutches which are controlled independently of the variator so that a smooth change of regime may be effected both at synchronous ratio and at transmission ratios other than the synchronous ratio. The system may comprise two electro-hydraulic pressure control valves 99,100, and respective clutch control circuits 90,97 each containing two electrically operated solenoid valves 106,107 and 109,110 which can be switched to connect each of the regime change clutches for hard-fill or soft-fill as required. |
