<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a carbon fiber bundle, capable of simultaneously and surely imparting excellent seizability and flexibility to the carbon fiber bundle by adhering a treating agent comprising a specific water-soluble vinylic copolymer to the carbon fiber bundle. SOLUTION: This method for treating a carbon fiber bundle comprises adhering 0.1-5.0wt.% of a water-soluble vinylic copolymer having a number-average mol.wt. of 2,000-10,000, comprising (A) 40-90mol.% of structural units (formula I), (B) 5-20mol.% of structural units (formula II), (C) 5-40mol.% of structural units (formula III) and (D) 1-7wt.% of structural units (formula IV), and having a (A+B)/(C+D) molar ratio of 95/5 to 60/40 to the carbon fiber bundle. Therein, R<1> , R<2> , R<3> and R<5> are each H or CH3 ; R<4> is H, a 1-3C alkyl or phenyl; R<6> is a 1-8C alkyl; M<1> is H<+> , a cationic group selected from an alkali (ne earth) metal ion and an organic ammonium ion; M<2> is a cationic group selected from an alkali (ne earth) metal and an organic ammonium ion; X is a divalent connecting group selected from among CH2 , CONHC(CH3 )2 CH2 , C6 H4 COOCH3 CH2 .</p> |
