PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape for recording computer data capable of attaining high recording capacity and having excellent traveling durability and high reliability to the recording and reading of data. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape is provided with a non-magnetic layer composed mainly of a non-magnetic powder and a binder, substantially non-magnetic and 1.0-2.0μm in thickness and a magnetic layer composed mainly of a ferromagnetic powder having 1900-2600 oersteds coercive force and the square ratio of >=0.78 and a binder, 0.05-0.5μm in thickness and 2-5nm in surface roughness in this order on one side of a long-sized supporting body composed of an aromatic polyamide or an aromatic polyimide. And a back coating layer is formed on another side of the long-sized supporting body and the total thickness is controlled to <=7.0μm.
