摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a phase difference plate which is free in designing of an orientation angle by forming the phase difference plate of which the angle of the optical axis to the normal direction of its plane is a specific angle and has the optically negative uniaxiality obtd. by impressing an electric field on a dielectric layer. SOLUTION: This phase difference plate has the optically negative uniaxiality obtd. by impressing the electric field on the dielectric layer after the formation of this layer or forming the dielectric layer while impressing the electric field thereon. When the angle of the optical axis to the normal direction of the phase difference plate plane is defined as 6, this angle is 0<=&theta;<=90 deg.. The dielectric layer includes, for example, a layer contg. an org. compd. having a pair of cationic substituents and aninonic substituents within the molecule expressed by formula. In the formula, X<1> is the cationic substituent and X<2> is the anionic substituent. Solvent cast films consisting of polycarbonate or polyether sulfone, etc., are adequately used as the substrate.
