PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject fluorescent substance powder represented by a specific composition formula, having a specific particle distribution and capable of realizing improvement of image due to utilization to radiation image- converting method, e.g. improvement of sharpness or graininess. SOLUTION: This rare earth-activated barium fluoride halide-based fluorescent substance powder is represented by the composition formula Ba1-x MIIx FX:aMI, bLn (MII is one or more kinds of alkaline halogens selected from Mg, Ca and Sr; X is one or more kinds of alkali metals selected from Cl, Br and I; MI is one or more kinds of alkali metals selected from Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs; Ln is one or more kinds of rare earth meal elements selected from Ce, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Tm and Yb; 0<=x<=0.5; 0<a<=0.05; 0<b<=0.2) and particle diameter of primary particles of a fluorescent substance occupying >=50wt.% of fluorescent substance particles constituting the powder is controlled to 0.1-1μm.
