PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound useful as an epoxy thermosetting agent or an intermediate for the resin field such as polyester resins. SOLUTION: This new compound is a dialkyl pentacyclo[8.2.0.1<2> ,<9> .0<3> ,<8> .1<4> ,<7> ]tetradec-11,12-dicarboxylate of formula I (R<1> and R<2> are each a 1-6C alkyl or 5C or 6C cycloalkyl). This compound is obtained by addition reaction between a dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylate of the formula R<2> OOCC≡CCOOR<1> and tetracyclo[6.2.1.0<2> ,<7> .1<3> ,<6> ]dodec-9-ene of formula II in the presence of a group VIII metal as catalyst (e.g. dihydridotetrakis(triphenylphosphine)ruthenium) in a solvent (e.g. dimethoxyethane) at 50-180 deg.C. Reduction of the compound of formula I gives a dialkyl pentacyclo[8.2.0.1<2> ,<9> .0<3> ,<8> .1<4> ,<7> ]tetradecane-11,12-dicarboxylate of formula III. |
