PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an ink jet recording device undergoing no color mixture during a recovery operation by forming the device to operate recovery motion in a state where the surface of ink sucked from a discharge port to a cap by ink sucking means through the cap is separated from the discharge port at a specific range. SOLUTION: In conducting suction recovery by suction means 29, a lip 25 is provided for removing sealing between an ink jet head 17 and a cap 21. During the period of a suction recovery operation, a waste ink layer 1015 is formed by ink 10, 15 spouted from discharge ports 11, 13 and thus mixed at the cap 21 bottom because of a vacuum condition of the cap 21 inner part. Although the distance (h) from the waste ink layer 1015 to the waste discharge port 11 or discharge port 13 is set to be 1-5mm, an adjustment of the distance (h) can be done through a balance between the suction means 29 and the cap 21. Ink 10, 15 spouted lessens gradually and stops after the stopping of the suction means 29, so that the waste ink layer 1015 never contacts with the discharge ports 11, 13. |
