PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accelerate the printing speed by providing the tip of a print head capable of moving in the vertical direction between the waiting position during printing and the paper surface for the second and subsequent printing lines in a device for printing a booklet such as a bandbook. SOLUTION: A print head 5 and a supporting frame 30 are biased in the counterclockwise direction around pivots 48, 49 by the self-weight or by the function of a spring. By controlling a driving source 44 such that a driving force is applied to a driving lever 40 for moving the supporting frame 30 downward in response to a print starting instruction and a detection signal of a detecting device 72 for printing operation, the tip of the print head 5 is lowered from the initial position P1. When the tip of the print head 5 is lowered from the initial position for a predetermined distance to reach the surface of a booklet quietly at a speed not damaging the surface, the driving source 44 is stopped according to the movement of a detector accommodating member 39 by the output from a second detecting device provided therein so as to fix the print head at a predetermined position. |
