A deformable structure (10) is subject to a plurality of reduced pressures, causing a bulge (41, 42) in the surface (24) of the deformable structure (10) above a separation (31, 32) in the deformable structure. A shearography device (110, 120) measures the cross sectional area of the bulge (41, 42) in a plane parallel to the surface of the deformable structure for each reduced pressure. When the cross sectional area of the bulge does not increase with a reduction in the pressure, the cross sectional area of the bulge (41, 42) approximates the area of the separation. A processor (130) determines the area of the separation and calculates the depth of the separation using the change in cross sectional area of the bulge per change in pressure. |
