The stretcher is split in the lengthwise direction into halves, being particularly for patients with traumatic injuries. Its backrest (23) is collapsible, folding down onto it in the lengthwise direction, and can be height-adjustable. The stretcher can fold once in the transverse direction, and can have a tubular frame (2), typically aluminium. Supporting components, typically of composite fibre, can be fixed to the frame, and the backrest can also have a tubular frame (27, 28) and supporting components (30, 31). Adapters can be included, for fitting to an underframe, together with holders for a superstructure.
