This new front fork shock absorber, is for a road cycle. The central tube (2) pivots in the steering head tube (1) and has an axially-sliding front fork shaft (3) mounted within it. This motion is limited by an elastomeric damper (4, 41). The steering movements are coupled through, by a steering transmission unit. This comprises a guidance element fastened to the upper end of the front fork shaft (3), with an interlocking, mating element sliding upon it in the central tube. This element comprises two cylindrical segments (71, 72) between these, a suitably-shaped guide element shaft (62) for the guidance element is received, held against relative rotation, with axial freedom of movement. Preferably, the cylindrical segments (71, 72) are made of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The elastomeric damper is cellular polyurethane elastomer with raw density 350-650 kg/m<3> and pore volume 63-50%.
