The invention relates to manually operated electric switching systems and particularly circuit breakers, comprising a control knob (13), a displacement guide (12) for a movable element (50) of the switch and a mechanism (11, 18, 19, 20, 22) such that a push on the control knob when it is in the pressed position moves the switch from the working position to the inoperative position and returns the knob to the out position, and such that a pull on the control knob when it is in the pressed position also moves the switch from the working position to the inoperative position and returns the knob to the out position. The invention is useful in closing and opening of electric switches such as circuit or contact breakers.
