The present invention relates to a combinational weigher-counter apparatus having a plurality of weighing heads (WH) each having an upper hopper (5), a lower hopper (6) which is disposed below the upper hopper and a load cell (8) for weighing articles inside the lower hoppers. Combinational calculations are carried out in a processor (100) based on the weights or numbers of articles measured by the load cell (8) so as to select a combination of hoppers according to a specified criterion. Articles are then discharged from the selected hoppers. Each of the upper and lower hoppers (5, 6) have a discharge opening (13) and a discharge gate (7), the discharge gate including a number of planar shutter blades (16) lying in a plane. The shutter blades, which move in the plane to close and open said discharge opening (13), are driven by a rotary air cylinder (30) so that the extremity of each blade moves along a path defining a locus. The weighing heads (WH) are arranged so that the locus of at least one blade (16) on one weighing head (WH) will overlap a mutually adjacent weighing head (WH) but where the blade (16) will not collide with any blade (16) of the adjacent weighing head (WH) whilst opening.
