<p>An endoscopic bioptome (10) includes a flexible coil (16) having a lumen with an axially displaceable wire (18) extending therethrough. The proximal ends of the coil and wire are coupled to a manual actuator (22) for axially displacing one of the coils and wires relative to the other. The distal end (15) of the coil is coupled to either a jaw assembly or a cylinder. The jaw assembly (14) includes a pair or jaws each having a distal jaw cup (44a, 44b) having a proximal neck (53a, 53b), and a relatively narrow bent resilient arm (50a, 50b). The distal end (45) of the wire is coupled to the cylinder (40) or the jaw assembly. The cylinder (40) is slidable over the jaw assembly. In another embodiment, the cylinder (40) is provided with an annular stopping crimp (19). In a third embodiment, the cylinder (40) is provided with a radially inward flange (243), and the coil (16) is provided with a reduced diameter portion (216a).
