AUTOMATIC MACHINE FOR MILLING AND CHAMFERING OF LENSES, ADVANTAGEOUSLY FOR SPECTACLE LENSES

An automatic machine for milling and chamfering lenses, advantageously lenses for spectacles, comprises first means (26, 28) for blocking in a predetermined position (27) a sheet advantageously made of synthetic material and being cut from a surface of a primitive sphere (50, 60) having a given radius (51, 61), second means (24), electronically controlled, for selectively carrying out a rotation of said sheet about a given axis, an electronically controlled miller (31) for carrying out a milling and chamfering operation of the border of said sheet, said miller (31) being mounted on a structure made to oscillate through motor means (37) about a predetermined axis. The machine further comprises an electronically controlled mechanism provided with third means (38, 41, 42) for translating said predetermined axis so that the distance of said axis (37) from said predetermined position (27) is constantly equal to the radius (51, 61) of said sphere (50, 60), as well as fourth means (32, 33) connected to said miller (31) and cooperating with said third means (38, 41, 42) in order to keep said miller (31) constantly in a working position on said sheet. In this way the position of the cutting and chamfering miller (31) is continuously and constantly adapted to the radius, that is, to the convexity, of the lens to be cut, and the chamfer thus formed is always centred with respect to the internal and external surfaces of the lens.
