An antenna extender system includes a means (20) for applying a bias force on the antenna (12) to urge it toward an extended position, and a damper means (30, 32) for controlling the velocity of the antenna when it is moved from a retracted to the extended position by a spring bias force. The antenna extender system solves the problem of uncontrolled instantaneous extension of antennas in small, mobile telecommunication instruments. The damper may be of rotatory, spring or friction type. |
