The invention comprises (1) a recombinant protein involved in nitrate and nitrite reduction in Staphylococcus carnosus (DSM 10563), selected from the nitrate reductase NarGHJ having three subunits, the nitrate reductase biogenesis protein NarI, the nitrate transport protein NarT, the nitrate reductase molybdenum cofactor biosynthesis proteins MoeB, MoaB, MoaC, MoeA, MoaD, MobA, MoaA, MobB, MoaE, the nitrite reductase protein NirBD having two subunits consisting, the nitrite reductase sirohem cofacteur biosynthesis protein CysG, and functional derivatives of these proteins; (2) genes encoding these recombinant proteins; (3) the use of recombinant protein or recombinant cells according to the invention to reduce nitrate and nitrite in a nitrate polluted material. <IMAGE> |
