PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a stainless steel excellent in designing properties by executing electrolysis with a stainless steel as the anode in an aq. soln. contg. magnesium chloride of specified weight molar concn. SOLUTION: In an aq. soln. cong. magnesium chloride of >=25mol/kg weight molar concn., electrolysis is executed with a stainless steel as the anode. Furthermore, as for the conditions of the electrolysis, the bath voltage is regulated to about 0.5 to 15V, the electrolyzing time is regulated to about 10sec to 3min and the bath temp. is regulated to about 20 to 80 deg.C. In this way, the stainless steel in which semi-spherical pits in which the diameter of the opening parts is regulated to severalμm are formed on the surface together with fine ruggedness of submicron order and improved in whiteness and antidazzle characteristics can be obtd.
