PRODUCTION OF OPTICAL FIBER WITH LENS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for making easy and inexpensive mass production of optical fibers with lenses which are fixed with lenses of arbitrary shapes to the front ends of the optical fibers. SOLUTION: A mold cavity 2 formed to a convex lens shape at a base 3 is provided with a core 4 for an optical fiber insertion hole in the prescribed position with respect to the base 3 of the convex lens shape. Alkoxide of silicon is poured into this mold cavity 2 and is hydrolyzed to form a gel 5a. This gel 5a is vitrified to form a convex lens 8 and thereafter, the optical fiber is inserted and fixed into the optical fiber insertion hole formed by the core 4.
