摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate a braking distance in response to a road surface condition and control the speed of a self vehicle under all road surface conditions by calculating a distance between a front vehicle and the self vehicle and the speed of the front vehicle and discriminating the road surface condition. SOLUTION: For instance, in a case where an antenna part 8 directs a front vehicle direction from a switch 15, an upper stage input memory 16 is selected because output of a transmitting and receiving part 9 is a reflection wave from the front vehicle. In addition, in a case where the antenna part 8 direct a road surface direction, a lower stage input memory 17 is selected because the output of the transmitting and receiving part 9 is another reflection wave from the road surface. The output of the memory calculates a distance R between the front vehicle and a self vehicle and the speed V2 of the front vehicle with a distance and speed arithmetic part 12 to output them to an ideal speed calculation part 20. The output of the memory 17 is compared with the output of a friction function memory 19 in response to power intensity of the reflection wave to judge a surface condition with a discrimination part 18 to output it to the ideal speed calculation part 20. The calculation part 20 calculates the proper speed of the vehicle so that the distance up to the front vehicle is always larger than a braking distance.</p>
