PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily, simply enhance explosion preventing performance by occupying the specified ratio of the space volume of the side and upper part of an electrode group of a battery with a first filling layer comprising inorganic powder and a second filling layer comprising thermoplastic resin powder or a hollow material. SOLUTION: An electrode group comprising a positive plate 1, a negative plate 2, and a separator 3 is housed in a battery container 6, and the container 6 is sealed with a lid 7 having an electrolyte pouring port 10, then a dilute sulfuric acid electrolyte is poured. Inorganic powder such as silica powder is filled from the electrolyte pouring port 10 through a nozzle in a space 15 formed by the absorbing of the electrolyte in the electrode group by the initial charge to form a first filling layer 4. Powder of thermoplastic resin such as phenol resin or a hollow material is filled so that an electrode plate lug 16 or a strap 17 is buried, and the total filling volume occupies at least 25% of the volume of the inner space 15 of the battery to form a second filling layer 5. A rubber valve 9 is fixed to the electrolyte pouring port 10, and a cap 11 is fit to a pool part 12 to complete a sealed lead-acid battery. |
