<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for judging the state of a sewage treatment plant, capable of distinguishing a small microorganism such as a bacterium, not delaying a countermeasure when the state of the plant is deteriorated, not requiring accurate determination of the absolute number of individuals of each microorganism species, not depending upon the ability of an observer and grasping the condition of the plant in a short time. SOLUTION: This method for judging the state of a sewage treatment plant comprises determining the presence of a specific microorganism by using a nucleic acid fragment of a prescribed sequence for detecting a specified microorganism species as a probe and hybridizing the probe with a nucleic acid in an activated sludge sewage. Previously, the relation between the variability of the number of individuals of a specific microorganism species and the change of the state of the sewage treatment plant is judged. The change of the number of individuals in the sewage treatment plant to be measured with time is successively measured. The measured result of the sewage treatment plant to be measured is compared with the prejudged result to successively distinguish the condition of the measured sewage treatment plant to be measured from the compared result.</p> |
