摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical recording medium, which fully satisfies both sensitivity and long term life by a method wherein the average interatomic distance between nitrogen atom in a recording layer and at least one kind of atom among atoms constituting the recording layer excluding nitrogen atom is set to have the specified value. SOLUTION: In this optical recording medium, nitrogen atom must be included in at least a recording layer. This nitrogen atom preferably preferably is under the state not only being present as impurity but also being bonded with the atom constituting the recording layer in order to act this nitrogen to the recording layer. In addition, the average interatomic distance between an amorphous nitrogen and its bonding counterpart is preferably set to be 0.17-0.24nm. The nitrogen atom is present interstitially in the recording layer. Accordingly, the heat conductivity of the resultant recording layer is lower than that of the recording layer, in which no nitrogen is included, resulting in improving the recording sensitivity of the medium. Further, an amorphous state is turned into unstable under the presence of the nitrogen and, even after the long term preservation, the amorphous state can easily be changed to a crystalline state.
