PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high contrast and to improve a view angle characteristic by providing a specified optical anisotropic body between a first polarizing plate and a second polarizing plate. SOLUTION: A display part of a liquid crystal display device is constituted of the first polarizing plate 1, a liquid crystal cell 2, the optical aniso-tropic body 3, the second polarizing plate 4 and a scattering plate 5. As the optical anisotropic body provided between the first polarizing plate 1 and the second polarizing plate 4, the matter that it is the optical aniso-tropic body Δn.d showing whose optical anisotropy is 20nm-150nm is required. Where, the Δn.d is a value measured by a high speed multi-wavelength refrin-gence measuring device making a polarizing modulation method using an optical elastic modulation element a measuring principle at a measuring wavelength 550nm. As the optical anisotropy, the matter that it is a uniaxial property or a biaxial property is required. Although dependency of measuring light exists in the Δn.d according to used material, the matter that the Δn.d range is satisfied within the range of the measuring light 400nm-700nm is preferred. |
