The articles (S) to be wrapped are located over the mouth (4) of a forming device (3) with the interposition of a sheet of wrapping material (A). Extending from this mouth (4) is a cavity in which, as a result of the advancement of the article (S) caused by a pusher element (9), the wrapper material (A) is wrapped around the front face of the article (S) relative to its direction of the advance. Subsequently the cavity contracts around behind the article (S) to be wrapped and this contraction completes the wrapping of the wrapper material (A) around the article (S) itself.
