PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To read an embossed character even when design and the embossed character are in the same color or colors of the same type by almost vertically irradiating light to the embossed character so as to optically read the emboss character. SOLUTION: The irradiating light 3 is almost vertically irradiated to the embossed character 5 to photograph reflected light from the embossed character 5 with a CCD cover 1 and this picture is picture-processed to read the embossed character 5. The intensity of the irradiating light 3 is suitably changed by the difference of respective reflectance to make clearest at the part of design (the color of a base), the rising part 5a of the embossed character 5 and the part of the embossed character. The influence of the designed part is eliminated like this to extract only the outline of the embossed character printed on a card 4 to read. The character read by a CCD camera 1 is systematized with a picture arithmetic processing unit 6 to apply-develop to the collation inspecting device of the embossed character 5. |
