PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To render a coupler high in solubility in organic solvents and good in dispersibility and spectral stability in a silver halide emulsion layer by using a specified coupler. SOLUTION: The coupler to be used is represented by the formula in which R1 is an alkyl or aryl or heterocyclic group; Y is a -O- or -NH- group; R2 is a >=2-valent bonding group; J is a divalent bonding group; (n) is 0 or 1; and Cp is a coupler residue. It is used usually in an amount of 1×10<-3> -1mol, preferably, 1×10<2> -8×10<-1> per 1mol of silver halide, and it is preferred to mix it into a silver halide emulsion and to coat a support with this emulsion to prepare this photosensitive material. This coupler is used for the color photographic sensitive material, such as color negative and positive films and color printing papers.
