PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a full-color natural image by this system with a limited number of colors as for image processing utilizing a computer. SOLUTION: This system has a mechanism which regards the natural color image as a projection image of a scene, considers the projection image to be generated with the reflected light of the object, and regards features for extracting an area as color attributes and a feature quantity space as a color space when performing area extraction of an image wherein parts including objects considered to have the same spectral characteristics of the image are regarded as one area, a mechanism which regards the class of the unit of an extraction object area in the feature quantity space as a distribution range of the color of the reflected light determined by the spectral reflection characteristics and geometric conditions of lighting light and a viewpoint regarding a reflection surface, and a mechanism which gathers color attribute values by areas on this image, approximately calculates its distribution track, and finds a color distribution approximation curve corresponding to each area, one to one. |
