The crewing of a sailing vessel never allowed the crew member a static position. This innovative crewing system consists of a vertical shaft 1, fixed at the transverse centre of the boat, connected to which a structure 2 rotates, supporting, on opposite sides of the shaft, mast 3 and crew member. This lever system is actuated by the force of the wind F applied to the sail 4 which alters and defines the position of the mast [at a distance from the shaft which can be refined, a] and, consequently, that of the crew member, depending on wind direction. The crew member thus remains in a seat 5 which has a translational movement X (around the shaft) and allows radial movement Y (approaching or moving away from the shaft), this being effected and checked 6 by the crew member as a function of wind force. Steering is transmitted from a wheel 7 (coupled to the seat) to the rudder or rudders 8 via cables 9. Angular adjustment Z of the sail does not interfere with the lever system, given the travel of the sheet 10 which passes via the axis thereof. <IMAGE>
