摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent liquid crystal device which has a bright display screen without requiring polarizing plates, is large in area, is of a thin type, prevents the failure of the transparent high-polymer material within a light controllable layer in spite of a thermal change and obviates cracking. SOLUTION: This liquid crystal device has a cell formed by disposing two sheets of substrates, which have electrode layers and at least one of which are transparent, in such a manner that these substrates face each other and the electrode layers come to the inner side, and sticking the peripheral edges of two sheets of the substrates by using a sealant, of which the coefft. L of linear expansion expressed by formula of the cured matter is in a range of 0 to 0.5% and the light controllable layer in the space formed by these substrates and sealant. The light controllable layer has a liquid crystal material and the transparent highpolymer material. In the equation, L1 denotes the length at 25 deg.C of the film which consists of the cured matter of the sealant and has 50μm thickness, 5mm width and 20mm length; L2 denotes the length measured at respective temps. when the same material is pulled in a longitudinal direction under weight weighing 0.1g and is heated up at a heating up rate of 25 to 2 deg.C/min.
