<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a random-access memory whose processing capability is increased and whose speed is made high by a method wherein, whenever intermediate results are read out sequentially in units of rows from a buffer in a plurality of orthogonal transducers, a one-dimensional orthogonal transformation is performed and the intermediate results are written into N columns in a cell array in units of columns. SOLUTION: Whenever images in portions of continued eight columns of a DRAM cell array 1 are read out sequentially, 64 pieces of DCT computing units 10, 11, 12 fetch eight-pixel data into an input buffer from a sense amplifier 6, a one-dimensional DCT computing operation is performed eight times under the control of a DCT controller 13, and DCT intermediate results are stored in an inverted buffer 44 in units of columns. Then, the 64 pieces of DCT computing units 10, 11, 12 execute the one-dimensional computing operation whenever the DCT intermediate results of the inverted buffer 44 are read out sequentially in units of rows, and the intermediate results are written sequentially into eight columns in the cell array 1 in units of columns.</p> |
