PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plastic optical fiber having excellent transmission loss in which the core has desired distribution of the refractive index. SOLUTION: In this plastic optical fiber, the refractive index of the core decreases from the center to the outer circumference and the core is composed of plural layers having different refractive indices. The resin which constitutes layers each having different refractive index from others is such a compsn. that contains a different amt. of a polymer produced by polymn. of monomers expressed by general formula CH2 CR<1> COOCR<2> R<3> R<4> from other compsns. In formula, R<1> to R<4> are halogen atoms, deuterium or halogenated alkyl groups. Each resin layer 5 which constitutes the core 1 is prepared by mixing the monomer and a nonpolymerizable org. compd. in the respective mixing ratio to obtain a mixture liquid 10, injecting the liquid 10 in a polymer tube 3 which is to be used as a clad, successively polymerizing the material while rotating the tube to form the layer. Then the obtd. plastic optical fiber perform is heated and drawn. |
