The hand brake has a puller (1b,11) for a brake cable (3) which is displace by a handle (1a) from an end position for release of the brake and a braked position where the cable is held by a ratchet (4) carried by it on teeth (6) on a fixed section (6). A control button (10) for release is associated with the handle and connected to the latter for movement between a position outside the handle when the ratchet is operational and a retracted position is released. Springs return the ratchet towards the locked position. The fixed section has a contact zone (6a) for the ratchet when the cable is in an extreme release position situated at the level of the top of the teeth.
