MECHANICAL ACCELERATION SWITCH.

A mechanical acceleration switch in a housing has a spring tongue with a seismic mass and a contact. When stationary the spring tongue has a position of rest and can be moved to the contact against a force acting additionally to that of the spring, e.g. a magnetic force or one produced by the pre-loading of the spring. The compact mechanical acceleration switch has few components and short switching times; vibrations in the spring tongue are prevented; thus the mechanical acceleration switch may be used as a safety sensor to detect lateral impact.
