Machine for destruction of metal pieces e.g. scalpel blades and medical syringe needles by fusion

The metal part destruction unit has an enclosure (3) with an opening (4) for introduction of metal parts(1,2). Inside the enclosure the metal parts are carried past two electrodes (6,7) which are adjacent to the opening. The passage of the metal part creates a short circuit between the electrodes. The current supplied (8) to the electrodes is sufficient to melt the metal. The current can be supplied from a motor vehicle battery to make the unit autonomous for some periods in its use. The state of the battery is monitored and an alarm indicates when it is discharged. A battery charger is then used to recharge the battery. The battery may be outside the enclosure to allow rapid replacement of discharged batteries.
