The device includes a speed detector (1) mounted on a vehicle, e.g. its gearbox. The detector consists of a rotating disc with an opening which passes in front of an IR sensor which generates a signal processed by a circuit with a clock. The speed detector is also provided with a second sensor (2) for detecting when the vehicle speed exceeds preset threshold values. The speed threshold sensor is connected to three displays (3,4,5) mounted e.g. on the vehicle rear and front bumpers and its dashboard. Each display includes illuminated windows (7-11) which can display two distinct colours, e.g. red and green.
