PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optically anisotropic body which is usable as an optical compensation film for a liquid crystal display device subjected to orientation control of oblique, twist and supertwisted orientation, etc., a high degree and has excellent optical characteristics with good productivity in a process for producing the optically anisotropic body by subjecting a polymerizable liquid crystal compd. of a thermosetting type to polymn. curing in a liquid crystal orientation state. SOLUTION: A pair of substrates 1, 2 having surfaces at least one of which have flexibility and which are respectively subjected to orientation treatments are used. The polymerizable liquid crystal mixture contg. the polymerizable liquid crystal compd. is applied on the orientation treated surface of at least one substrate 1. The surface coated with the polymerizable liquid crystal mixture of the one substrate 1 and the orientation treated surface of the other substrate 2 are disposed to face each other and further, spacers are interposed between the substrates 1 and 2 and in this state, a pair of the substrates are stuck to each other while a pressure is applied thereon by using a revolving roll 3; thereafter, the polymerizable liquid crystal mixture is thermally cured in the oriented state of the liquid crystals, by which the orientation cured matter layer is formed. |
