A CO gas sensor includes a gas collecting vessel for purging gas to be tested, a detector which is provided in the gas collecting vessel and has electrolyte and a pair of electrodes facing each other with the electrolyte therebetween and a voltage application device which applies a voltage to the detector. One of the pair of the electrodes is a detection electrode which is active in adsorbing at least one of hydrogen gas and CO gas and being oxidized when a voltage is applied to it by a voltage application device. The gas to be tested is introduced into the gas collecting vessel in the CO gas sensor and subjected to electrolysis by a potential sweeping method or a pulse method while being brought into contact with the detector to measure the CO gas concentration in the gas by using the current value measured at the detection electrode and the variation of the current with time. With the gas sensor, CO gas can be detected or determined with a high accuracy even in an atmosphere containing a relatively large quantity of hydrogen gas and CO2 gas.
|
