Adjustable arm rest for motor vehicle seat

The vehicle seat (1) consists of a rigid frame, which is fitted with an arm rest (4) extending longitudinally from a forward free end (5) to the rear end (6), which is mounted to rotate on the seat frame (8). The arm rest may be pivoted between an angular position, where the rest is practically horizontal, in the folded out position and an angular position, where the rest is past vertical and is in a recess in the seat back. The arm rest is formed with a rigid hollow frame (9), which contains an adjuster (11), to allow the angular adjustment of the position of the rest. The adjuster consists of a rigid adjustment rod (13), which extends from rear end (14) by the rear end of the rest to the front end (15), which is close to the front end of the rest. A stop (18) supports the rear end of the rod, which is spring loaded against the stop. A lock (20) pivots on axis (24) to lock the rod in position, by preventing it from sliding through to allow the rest to pivot further down.
