The drying device (1) has a casing (2) enclosing a drying tunnel (3) with entry and exit openings (4,5) at opposite ends and a hot air circulation device for circulating a hot air drying stream through the tunnel. The printed circuit boards are transported through the tunnel via a pair of parallel chains, provided with grippers for clamping the top edge of each circuit board, with automatic clamping of a circuit board adjacent the entry opening and automatic release of a circuit board adjacent the exit opening, as the chains pass around the respective deflection rollers (8,9).
