Magnetic recording medium comprise (a) a carrier layer(1,2) (b) a base layer (3) comprising Cr or Cr-containing alloy, where the base layer is laminated to the layer; (c) a magnetic layer (4) comprising a Co alloy and is laminated to the base layer and (d) a crystal seed layer (7) between the carrier layer and the base layer. Production of the medium is also claimed.
