The cover (4) is of U-section, having a top part (17) on to which two sidewalls (7,8) join. More than half the cross-sectional area of the basic shaft (5) protrudes into the chamber enclosed by the cover, which can at least partly enclose other components of the cylinder-head. The cover can be fixed to a cylinder head cover (3), or to one or more of the camshaft bearings (20). It can be integral with the bearings, and of plastic.
