Steering column lock for motor vehicle

The lock (3) has a steering column (4) carrying a locking ring (6) with peripheral grooves. A control cam (8), actuated by a control element, is mounted on the column so that the cam axis intersects the column axis perpendicularly in top view. Two blocking cams (10,11) mounted on the control cam, symmetrically w.r.t. the column, can pivot about the control cam axis. Both blocking cams (10,11) can be moved by rotation of the control cam (8) from a first position, i.e. the control cam locking position, in which they engage corresponding grooves in the locking ring (6), to a second position in which the control cam is released. In the locking position, the blocking cams are subjected to pressure if the steering is operated.
