Production of liquid pig iron or liquid steel pre-products and at least partially reduced non-ferrous ore, especially non-ferrous metal sponge comprises: (a) directly reducing iron ore, preferably in piece and/or pellet form and optionally additives in a 1st. reducing zone (12); (b) melting the iron sponge in a melting-gasifying zone (8) by introducing carbon carriers and oxygen-containing gas to producing a Co- and H2-containing reducing gas; (c) feeding the reducing gas into the reducing zone (12), converting and withdrawing as export gas; and (d) introducing the export gas into a further reducing zone (25) to directly reduce non-ferrous ore, preferably to directly reduce to partially reduced non-ferrous metal sponge. Also claimed is an apparatus for carrying out the process.
