The automatic control device of the amount of cooling water in a cooling device for an automotor engine to prevent the overheating of the engine, comprises: a cooling water tank(60) having upper/lower limit reed switches(SW2,SW1) each turned on/off by means of a magnetic iron(63) installed on a floating body(62) on the upper/lower limit level of the cooling water on the one side of the cooling water tank(60); an auxiliary tank(70) where a pump motor(40) is formed to supply or cut off the cooling water stored by the operation of the reed switches(SW2,SW1) to the cooling water tank(60) via a connection pipe(50); a warning lamp(30) installed on the front surface of a driver's seat to be operated with the operation of the pump motor(40); and a controller(100) for controlling the pump motor(40) and the warning lamp(30) in accordance with the operation of the reed switches(SW2,SW1).
