Vehicle navigation method which includes speech recognition

The vehicle navigation system has voice recognition system in which a large dictionary of words are stored. In a first voice recognition step a number of words are selected from the dictionary by matching with a time sequential input of words from a microphone, the words being a necessary command to the navigation system. The selected words are then repeated in the form of a question. A second voice recognition step then analyses the answer to the question, comparing the answer to a much smaller subset of words. If the answer is recognised as being affirmative (yes) then the navigation system uses the information, command from the first input step to carry out an appropriate action.
