Vehicle navigation system using GPS and electronic road map

A vehicle navigation system consists of a microcomputer linked to a GPS receiver and with a store of road maps in the memory and input for logging the destination. By means of the GPS the present position of the vehicle is identified and the relevant road map is selected and shown on a video screen. The destination is then entered and its neighbourhood determined. From this information a route using the road data is selected. If, however, the driver prefers and uses different roads, the actual roads chosen are stored in the memory. Subsequent routes to the same destination area are then based on the driver's preferred roads.
