High power spark ignition system for IC engine

The system has a step-up or high voltage transformer connected to a controllable spark generation system (14). The engine has a piston (16) with an end and a cylinder (20) with an axis (22), an upper part (24) and side walls (26). The piston is positioned inside the cylinder with its end next to the upper part of the cylinder. The piston end, cylinder upper part and cylinder side walls define a combustion zone (28). A first electrode (38) extending through the engine (12) structure into the combustion zone is connected to the high voltage transformer (36). A second electrode (46) is connected to the cylinder at a point inside the combustion zone and adjacent to the first electrode.
