Conveyor system for transporting long workpieces for machining

The system consists of one stage (3) for moving the workpieces (W), e.g. round-section bars or tubes, in a lengthwise direction. A second stage (5) consists in moving them sideways perpendicular to the first direction. A third stage is used for vertical movement, with sensors to detect the position of the workpieces during each stage. Either of the stages which move the workpieces horizontally can be used to move them vertically. The lengthwise moving stage consisting of a series of rollers (59). The transverse stage has a number of chains which are able to support the workpieces on and between their links.
